The importance of Date Selection

It's been a while since my last blog post. I have been busy with life, but I have always practiced Chinese Metaphysics on my daily life.

A topic I want to talk today is about Personal Date Selection. There are good days, neutral days and bad days for each individual to do certain actions. If you select good days for things that you need to get results for (for example: job interview, salary negotiation, fundraising, etc), then you have much better chance of getting the results that you want.
 
There is no such thing as Good Day for everyone or Bad Day for everyone, because each day brings different energy that may match, compliment or against your personal energy. It all comes back to the birth chart. A good day for you may not be a good day for your friend, and vice versa. That's why picking Personal Good Days are crucial in improving your life.

About Spouse

The old theory said Direct Officer is the Spouse for woman, and Direct Wealth is the Spouse for man. However, there are examples of people without Direct Wealth or Direct Officer in their charts, and they still get married.

In my opinion, that old theory was accurate for the old society. In the olden days (when BaZi was invented), an unmarried girl/woman did not go out and find dates freely. They only interacted with a male when their family arrange a wedding/engagement for them. That's why in the old days, a female meeting a Direct Officer meets meet a Spouse.

In the modern days, girls/women go out freely. Meeting a Direct Officer just means she meets potential spouse. This could be a casual date, a friend introduced by family/friends, or random encounters. In the modern days, random encounters and casual dates do not automatically translate to marriage. It just means meetings. It can (but not always) turn to a marriage.

So, don't worry if you do not have Direct Officer or Direct Wealth in your chart. In the olden days, people should worry about that, because the condition in those days (people did not mingle casually with non-family members), but we live in modern days.

My point is: BaZi needs to be used/adapted according to the time and situation.

Just reading old text (without testing), can make you get inaccurate readings. In my opinion, all theories need to be tested.

About Date Selection

There are 2 known methods for Date Selection: 12 Day Officers and Personalized one.

The 12 Day Officers system has 12 rotating days, and each day is normally suitable or unsuitable for certain activities. 

I normally do not use 12 Day Officers system, because it's too generic.  Let me give you a couple of examples:

Example 1:
On a good day according to the 12 Day Officers; Person A, Person B, Person C all attending a job interview. Only one person gets the job. So is it a good day? It's a good day for Person A that got the job, but it's a bad day for Person B and Person C who don't get the job.

Example 2:
On a bad day according to the 12 Day Officers; 8 runners competing for a gold medal. Person A gets gold medal, Person B gets silver medal and Person C gets bronze medal. The other 5 runners don't get any medals. So is it a bad day? It's a bad day for the 5 that don't get any medals, but it's a good day for the 3 that get the medals.

In every given day, there are winners and losers in every aspect of life.

That's why I normally use Personalized Date Selection, because a day can be great for someone with a certain birth chart, while totally awful for another person with a different chart.

Personalized Date Selection is based on someone's birth chart, so a good day for each individual is different.

It's not about your chart, it's how you use it

12.96 million chart possibilities, 7 billion people

Newbies commonly ask about whether they will become rich, when they will meet their soulmate, when they will marry, what type of soulmate they'll get, etc

There are only 12.96 million Ba Zi chart possibilities, while there are more than 7 billion people in this world. The Ba Zi chart only show potentials, not the end results. Two people born in exactly same hour, same day, same month and same year can have totally different lives.

To me personally, Ba Zi is a tool to find out your potentials and maximize your life, not a tool to do fortune-telling life story.

Let use some examples to explain:

Example 1: About wealth potentials

Mr A and Mr B born in the same hour, day, month and year (same chart). For this example, let's just say they don't have Wealth Stars in their chart, but they have favorable Eating God stars in their chart.

Mr A did BaZi reading and decided that he would write novels. Mr A studies about writing and does a lot of research, and he eventually writes and publishes his own books. He becomes rich.

Mr B didn't do Ba Zi reading, and he decided to be a businessman, which is not his talent. Mr B didn't become rich.

Two people with same chart, ending up differently, because they made different decisions about what to do with their lives. It's not about your chart, it's about how you use it.

Example 2: About happiness potentials

Miss C and Miss D born in the same hour, day, month, year (same chart).

Miss C doesn't understand the importance of Ba Zi chart compatibility for potential partners, so she often has relationship problems. She thinks that's how her life should be.

Miss D chooses a potential partner based on his chart compatibility with her chart. She decides to enter a relationship with someone whose chart has strong compatibility with hers. She has a very happy relationship.

Two people with same chart, ending up differently, because they made different decisions about what to do with their lives. It's not about your chart, it's about how you use it.

 

Example 3: About timing

Mr E and Mr F born in the same hour, day, month, year (same chart). Let's just say they're both investors.

Mr E doesn't care about Ba Zi chart. He invests in a year that's not favorable for him to do investment. He suffers a loss.

Mr F invests on a favorable year based on his Ba Zi chart. His investment gains good profit.

Two people with same chart, ending up differently, because they made different decisions about what to do with their lives. It's not about your chart, it's about how you use it.

With those examples above, I'm sure you get the idea. Once again: It's not about your chart, it's about how you use it.

About Relationship and Marriage

Many females ask about relationship and marriage matters. When people ask me questions about this, I normally assess relationship and marriage based on 3 factors: Attraction, Compatibility and Beneficiality. They are not the same thing.

ATTRACTION:
Attraction is the spark at the beginning. It's that love at the first sight or tingly feeling or intrigue feeling wanting to know more about the other person. It can be physical attraction (attracted to handsome men, pretty women), intellectual attraction (attracted to people's way of talking, people's ideas, etc), emotional attraction (attracted to someone who's protective or someone who is caring, etc) or combination of 2 or all 3 together.

Some people with certain Ba Zi charts are attracted some other people with certain Ba Zi charts. The full charts need to be analyze for attraction level.

Attraction is important at the early stage of dating/courting. A high level of attraction gives you a great advantage to start dating or start a relationship. If the attraction level is low, it takes longer time to make the other party interested, but it's still possible if Compatibility level is high. 

COMPATIBILITY:
Compatibility is how the personalities of the couple match each other. This is different to Attraction (early spark). Compatibility is about how the couple solve problems together, support each other through the good times and bad times. This is normally crucial to see whether the couple can last for a long time.

High level of attraction, low level of compatibility = hot, romantic and steamy at the start, but things start to fall apart when one or both have some problems, because they have different points of view, different ways to deal with things, so argument happens when problems arise. Small arguments can become big arguments when the compatibility level is low.

Low level of attraction, high level of compatibility= takes time to start the relationship, need some extra efforts at the beginning to generate the spark, but once the spark is there, things normally go smooth sailing, because they can tackle and solve life problems together.

Of course, there are other combinations, but after reading my examples above, you'll be able to figure out what the other combinations mean.

BENEFICIALITY:
Beneficiality is about whether people will become better, worse or at the similar level after a relationship/marriage. This is easier described by using examples.

Some examples:
Some certain charts need some certain elements from their partner to succeed in business or career.
Some certain charts need some certain elements from their partner to be more pro-active/daring.
Some certain charts need some certain elements from their partner to be less impulsive.

After being in a relationship or marriage with someone, some people get better in their general behaviors (e.g: become calmer, and able to make better decisions), and some people get worse (e.g: become lazier). These effects have indirect contributions in their career, wealth or other factors in life. For example: someone that becomes more hardworking will be able to get career promotion.

High level of attraction, high level of compatibility, low level of beneficiality = Very loving relationship/marriage, but not much career/wealth upgrades after the relationship/marriage. Bear in mind, this doesn't mean that person can't progress in career. This just means the partner doesn't give career/wealth benefits. That person can still get better career and wealth by his/her own efforts, for example: studying a post-graduate degree, or attending investment seminars, etc.

High level of beneficiality, high level of attraction, low level of compatibility = Hot and steamy at the beginning, a lot of quarrels in the relationship/marriage, but their career/wealth are very successful after marriage. This is quite common when two rich/famous people (for example: celebrities) get marriage. They become richer and more popular, but they keep quarreling with each other at home. Do you ever wonder why a lot of celebrities get married and divorce often? This is the reason why.

I will not explain other combinations here, because it's too long to type. I'm sure that by reading the examples above, you will be able to figure out the other combinations yourself.

WHICH ONE IS MOST IMPORTANT?

The best combination is of course: High Level of Attraction + High Level of Compatibility + High Level of Beneficiality. But this is very rare in real life. It is common in movies and TV dramas though 😄

In my personal opinion, Compatibility is most important, but I'm aware that everyone has different views in life.

The playboys and playgirls would probably say that Attraction is most important.
The people that want stable relationship/marriage would probably say that Compatibility is most important.
The people that worship money/status would probably say that Beneficiality is most important.

About Wealth and Rob Wealth in Ba Zi

When it comes to Ba Zi reading, many people's first question is always about Wealth. Will they become wealthy? Can they be a millionaire/billionaire?

Strong Day Master have potential to earn more when they are in Wealth Luck Pillar or Annual Pillar. During this time, they are strong enough to take the wealth. However, they have potential to leak money when they are in Rob Wealth Luck Pillar or Annual Pillar.

Weak Day Master have potential to lose money easily when they are in Wealth Luck Pillar or Annual Pillar. During this time, the wealth is stronger than them, so they lose (money out). However, they have potential to earn money when they are in Rob Wealth Luck Pillar or Annual Pillar. 

When it comes to Rob Wealth, the Strong Day Master is the one being robbed, while the Weak Day Master is the robber. Not literally of course. That's why Rob Wealth personality is The Leader. They 'rob' other people's talent and lead them. 

An example of this is Liu Bei. Liu Bei was not as smart as Zhuge Liang, not as heroic as Guan Yu, not as strong as Zhang Fei, but he was the leader.

Of course, the entire chart need to be assessed whether Rob Wealth is positive or negative for the person. 

Solar Time vs Clock Time

When it comes to birth time (which affects the Hour Pillar in Ba Zi, and affects the entire reading in ZWDS or QMDJ), there are debates and discussions whether we should use the True Solar Time or Clock Time.

The Clock Time sect believe that if the government set time adjustments (e.g: daylight savings or government adjusted time) and you were born in that country, it's your fate, so the clock time should be used.

The True Solar Time sect believe that reading should be done based on True Solar Time, because that is the situation when Ba Zi, ZWDS, QMDJ were invented. No daylight savings, no adjusted time for government administration purpose.

Interestingly enough, people from the countries without daylight-savings trust the government time more, because they never experience a time when government (human) change the clock forward and back. While people from countries with daylight-savings trust nature's time more, because every year they experience that changing clock forward and back won't actually change the nature time.

I personally think using True Solar Time is more accurate.

Why? Because Clock and Timezones are set by humans. For example: if tomorrow the government of a certain country tell the citizens they'll change the timezone to 3 hours forward. Are you going to read Ba Zi / ZWDS/ QMDJ chart based on the timezone set by human?

Earth rotating the Sun is not set by human. In my opinion, a reading based on correct longitude, latitude, and True Solar Time would be more accurate. Do you trust the nature/universe or do you trust human?

Heaven, Earth, Man applications

According to Chinese metaphysics, someone's Destiny is based on three things: Heaven, Earth and Man.

1. HEAVEN:
Things that we were born with. Things we can't control, like our birthday, our parents, our city of birth. The Heaven part governs our personality, physical body, our talents, our genetics.

Ba Zi (8 characters astrology, based on our birth time, day, month and year) can help us to find out what our talents are, how to maximize our health, how to find out favorable time for us to do certain things.

Application:By finding out our talent, we should be able to make better decisions related to education, job, business, relationships. For example:
- Someone who has natural sports talent can pursue his sports training and pursue a career as a sportsperson, instead of wasting time studying accounting, which he has no talent of.
- Someone who has certain weakness can consume foods that are more suitable to her body, in order to boost her health.

2. EARTH:
Our environment. This aspect is something we can partially control.We can choose to live in a more beneficial environment.

The art of Feng Shui is to match the nature energy (for example: earth magnetic) and attune it with one's individual genetic. Certain directions/locations benefit some certain people. There are certain directions/locations based on Earth Magnetic Force that affects health, relationship, thoughts and morales.

Application: Feng Shui can help us to attune our mind and body in order to find and maximize opportunities. For example:
- Sleeping in a certain sector/direction can help someone to have a much better quality sleep and boost his/her immune system.
- Having the work desk in certain sector/direction can help someone to increase his/her productivity at work.
- Setting up a marketing campaign in a certain sector/direction can help someone's popularity.

3. MAN:
Human efforts. Our decisions. Our hard work. This aspect is something we can fully control.

Application:
By knowing our own strengths and weaknesses, and by knowing other people's psyche, we can make better decisions that impact our day to day live. For example:
- Organizing a date on a favorable day for the couple. On a day that's suitable for both, the mood will be good, and the result will be favorable.
- By knowing the personality of your boss, you can set your work performance to match or exceed his/her expectation. This may make you climb the corporate ladder higher.
- By knowing the strategy of your business rival, you can set up a plan that will be beneficial for your product.


IN CONCLUSION:
Ba Zi, Feng Shui, Qi Men Dun Jia are not magic. They are fantastic tools to help you making better decisions, achieve your goals, and improve your life.

Case Studies: Day Pillar vs Year Pillar

In my previous post, the biggest misconception people take is about Year Pillar.

Let's go into two different examples where Day Pillars matter significantly more than Year Pillar.

1. Kobe Bryant's unfortunate accident

Kobe Bryant was born in Fire Snake day in Earth Horse year. In January 26th 2020 Earth Pig year, Kobe had an unfortunate helicopter accident that sadly took his life.

The Pig of the year clashed Kobe's Snake day of birth.


2. Deontay Wilder knocked out by Tyson Fury in the WBC Boxing match

Deontay Wilder was an undefeated WBC heavyweight champion. Prior to the fight against Tyson Fury, Deontay's record was 41 wins and 40 by knockouts. A very impressive record with knock-out rates higher than Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis.

However, Deontay was convincingly beaten by Tyson Fury on Feb 22nd, 2020. He got knocked down multiple times before his team surrendered by throwing the white towel. For the first time, Deontay was beaten. Not only that, he suffered a Technical Knock Out loss.

Deontay Wilder was born in Wood Horse day in Wood Ox year. In the Metal Rat year, Deontay suffered his first loss in professional boxing.

The Metal Rat of the year clashed with Deontay's Wood Horse day.


In conclusion:
Whenever the day of birth is clashed, the person's health and relationships are affected. This is why Day is much more important than Year in Ba Zi.

Misconception #1 in Chinese Astrology

You often see many Chinese Astrologers or websites using Birth Year as the basis of the prediction. These kinds of horoscopes are normally generic and most of the times inaccurate. Do you remember when you were at school with classmates born at the same year? Did everyone always have a good/bad year together?

The true Chinese Astrology is based on Year, Month, Day and Hour of birth. In most cases, the Day is much more important than the Year.

For example: In 2025, which is the Year of the Snake, the people that feel most significant impact of the clash are the people that were born in Pig Day, not Pig Year. The roles of the Month, Year and Hour are not to be discarded though. Each pillar tells a part of a bigger picture.

Why is the Year method so popular? It’s because it’s easy to find out the Year. Most people like the easy stuff, rather than going through the trouble of finding the Day.
